What stays on the phone.
Maskd is a screen recorder. Everything it captures stays on the device that captured it. No recording, no frame, no accessibility event is uploaded.
Data we do not collect
- Recording content (video, audio, screenshots).
- Accessibility events, on-screen text, or app names.
- Your private-app list (the up to 2 apps you tagged).
- Device identifiers tied to the above.
Data the app uses on-device only
- Accessibility events from Android — used in real time to know what to mask, then discarded.
- Screen frames from
MediaProjection— processed through the GL pipeline and written to the masked output file. - Your private-app list (max 2 free, unlimited Premium) — stored in the app's private storage.
Network calls Maskd makes
- Google Play Billing — to validate your Premium entitlement. Google sees the purchase; Maskd does not see your account identity beyond a billing token.
- Optional crash reports — opt-in only. Off by default. No content of any recording is ever included in a crash report.
Permissions
- Accessibility — required for masking. Used to inspect window changes and on-screen text only when a recording or screen-share is active. Never read off-device.
- Capture (MediaProjection) — the standard Android dialog you tap when starting a recording.
- Storage / Media — required to write the recorded MP4 to your Movies folder.
- Do Not Disturb — optional. Only requested if you enable the "silence notifications while recording" toggle. Your prior DND setting is restored on stop.
